I appreciate her standing up for him and what he went through. But, it is ashamed that so many people speak of things they only know by speculation. We as a nation speak about facts and yet so many people speak on emotional ignorance. He was not a pedofile. why would the famous man in the world have to seduce a cancer patient when someone could buy a child from a third world country. What he decided to do with his face was his business and if he had of told people that a long time ago and not given interviews he would still be alive. and leave the cancer patient's fate up to God. MJ's problem was that he was a GENTLEMAN. He didn't want to PROVE anything, he just didn't care about tabloids. He didn't UDNRESS himself, how many would do to prove vitiligo... To all those commenters who think MJ was guilty of paedophilia it just means that you have not done any thorough research and have been a victim of tabloid media. If you had bothered to find out the real facts which are freely available now you might not be so sure.
Aphrodite Jones excellent coverage of the 2003 trial and the subsequent book that resulted. She was a prime example of a member of the media who was convinced of Michael's guilt and even went on TV to attack Michael without any hard proof. After the trial she was so ashamed of the way she had treated Michael she wrote a book about it. Also Geraldine Hughes wrote a book called "Redemption". She was employed by the lawyers of Michael Jackson's accusers the Chandlers. She saw all the underhanded, illegal activity that went on behind the scenes that was designed to ensure that Michael was seen as a paedophile. She could not rest until she brought the truth out. There are many others who have written books in support of Michael but the media never advertises these. It is better for ratings to portray Michael as this Monster which he wasn't. Enough said but please do your homework before you label someone with such a haenous label. Think of his children - they deserve a bit more respect than that. Don't forget use of the subjunctive (or lack of it)! Actually, there's something about hot2cake's writing that leads me to believe English is not his/her mother tongue and/or he/she is fairly young.

You weaved a wonderful tale of one of your experiences, MAWB, which seems to have been lost in the battle that followed. I particularly liked your description of people running pell mell to snatch seats! I imagined something like people lined up outside a department store for hours before a big sale, and then practically breaking down the doors and snatching items off racks randomly and fighting over clothing they'll never wear.

You are correct in stating that others turned it into a forum with regard to the person he was or wasn't, so I'll add my two cents to that. I have tremendous respect for his talent as an entertainer. Everything else about him is really none of my business.

I loved Michael and his music very much, I was lucky enough to see him on stage in 1988 during his concert in Rome...simply amazing, I clearly remember his beautiful smile, his dancing and we all wished it would last forever but it didn't...I grew up and I went on with my life and lost track of him. His death was a shock for me, I did not know he was preparing for another tour. In reading most of the various replies on this blog, some seem to feel that Michael was guilty of child molestation. I find that most of the people who believe this have based it on his interviews where he said that he has allowed children to sleep in his bed and HE SLEPT ON THE FLOOR.THESE PEOPLE HAVE TRULY MISSED THE FACT THAT HE SAID (and the children said it too)HE SLEPT ON THE FLOOR. He said that the experience was truly innocent. They would have wrm milk, cookies, stories, by the fireplace. There were also girls and some siblings. Michael's bedroom was not your average bedroom. His room was the size of a medium apartment. His bed was a double King size. Michael grew up sleeping with his brothes in a cramped house. Yes they were his brothers, but they were also his friends. He did not feel that anything was wrong because the parents knew their children were sleeping over his house.I am so sue that htese parens got to know Michael. They did not just "drop" them off at Michael's house, pick up a credit card and go shopping..leaving their children at the mercy of a famous stanger. The parents were there also. A real parent knows the whereabouts of their children at ALL times...ESPECIALLY a sleep over. Oh by the way, in Martin Bashir interview, Michael clearly said he would sleep in the FLOOR while the kids took over his bed. And his bedroom was HUGE, so I don't think he was out of space. As mentioned by another poster, in other parts of the world outside America, children still often sleep with grown-ups they are familiar with, without any sexual contexts. As what happened with Michael and children he invited to his house. I've seen some documentaries of Neverland, and in most cases, there were little girls as well as boys in the crowd.

Children are his inspirations as an artist, I certainly can understand this. When I was just a small girl, I had so many dreams, so many things I wanted to do. Even weird ones, like wanting to make a machine which can turn garbages into fresh water. For kids, there are no limits of fantasy and we look at everything with wonder eyes and excitements. That is precisely what Michael repeatedly called "childlike" qualities.

But as I grew up, I developed certain prejudices, judgements and limitations for myself. I haven't done any of my childhood dreams, though I can certainly say that I make a good career and earning for myself. But the satisfaction is not there, it still feels like I haven't fulfilled anything in my life.

And I'm just a normal average person. Michael is an artist, who needs continuous inspirations to push his creativity. For him, being a child prodigy and genious, there were too many prejudices and judgements imposed by adult people around him. How many times was he told he couldn't do this or that? For example, when he wanted to work with Quincy Jones for Off The Wall album, the record company initially rejected the idea because they thought Quincy was too jazzy for him. That's prejudice set for limiting creativity. For Michael, there was no categorization for music. We're lucky he was stubborn enough back then, otherwise OTW, Thriller and Bad would never exist.

In my opinion, all great artits are more sensitive to things that are happening in this world (even small things like the drop of morning dew, not to mention the pain and suffering of children), than normal person. But it's through their sensitivity, they create timeless arts for us to enjoy and appreciate.

Rest in Peace Michael. I hope you'll find true happiness up there in heaven.

I just want to clear up certain things people above me wrote in response to this blog.

As far as I understand (from the GQ article and 2 other independent lawyers' analysis), Michael Jackson made a settlement for CIVIL court with the first accuser (Chandler kid), who made the allegations under the influence of a powerful drug used by his father. Note that the allegation was made for the first time in front of a social worker, not the Police.

Now, why did Michael put the settlement if he's not guilty? First, there are two courts: criminal and civil. Back in 1993, if I'm not mistaken, the law was in such way that child molestation charges could be processed through the 2 courts in parallel. Note that in civil court, you only need 51% votes from the Jury for a verdict, while in criminal court it must be 100% votes. That means, under this condition, Michael could be verdicted guilty in civil court with only 51% votes.

Second, I read that he and his lawyers requested to the judge to have criminal court conducted first prior to civil court, but this request was rejected. Base on this alone, I can say he's not guilty because only if you are 100% sure you're innocent then you will ask for criminal court.

In the Diane Sawyer interview, Michael explained he was told by his lawyers that the civil court could drag on for as long as 7 years. So they made a decision to settle it. A decision I completely understand because he could not win in any other ways (if only he was allowed to face crimical court first and proved his innocence, I'm sure there'd be no settlement). And it's not him who made the settlement, it's the insurance company. The settlement was not for guilty coverage but "negligence" or something like that. The settlement document is available in the internet if you want to look for it, it was presented to the jury during 2005 trial case.

Note that the civil settlement did not prevent the accuser to take the case to criminal court. The prosecutors did tried but the boy refused to testify again. So the case fell apart. And the prosecutors did not find any other evidences. The marks mentioned by the boy of Michael's private part DID NOT match with the real thing (based on photographs taken by the police when he was stripped down).

Now, following this case, the law was changed later on. Going forward, for this kind of charges, criminal court must be conducted first prior to civil court (if I'm not mistaken, this change was actually proposed by the DA - Tom Sneddon).

That's why we had the criminal trial in 2005.

Note that at first the mother of second accuser (Gavin) went to the same civil lawyer who represented the first accuser, not to the police. It's clear to me that they were hoping to be in the same position as Chandler & co. Unfortunately, the law had been changed. Of course, after Michael was acquitted on all counts in the criminal court (by the jury with traditional backgrounds), they could still pursue civil court, but I believe their case was too weak for that.

Sneddon investigated every boy that MJ had ever had contact with and not one of them had been touched inappropriately. He traveled several times out of the country to conduct these interviews. There were more police and forensic experts on the MJ case than the highest profile murder investigation. Sneddon had a page on the department's website since '93 asking boys to come forward. He and Diane Dimond stalked MJ to death. And as the DA said, It's not illegal to sleep in the same bed with a child. We need a victim.

Plastic surgery..I doubt he had more than Joan Rivers. Does anyone talk about her "issues" for constantly reconstructing her face? It's the bias that MJ admirers don't tolerate. As his dermatologist said, MJ is an artist. Saw his face as a canvas that could be changed. Reconstruction does not imply he was a pedophile. It was an artistic expression. As MJ said, plastic surgery wasn't invented for MJ. And, if everyone who has had plastic surgery left Hollywood, no one would be left.

The balcony incident. It was reported that he was suffering debilitating insomnia during that tour and had a doctor traveling with him who would administered Propofol. Propofol will give the physical body rest, but doesn't allow for REM sleep. Lack of REM sleep makes one MANIC. Being sleep deprived caused him to make a bad choice. The media's attack hightened his distress.

Pain meds- he had legitimate medical reasons (lupus, back injury, dancer's feet) to use them, and as anyone knows, you have to increase dose for effective pain relief over time. People who have chronic pain deal with this and frequently must detox to re-set their tolerance level. There are no safe and effective long-term treatments for chronic pain or debilitating insomnia. I might add, no mention of pain meds in his system in the autopsy report. No sign of liver/kidney damage. Wish people would lay off the "addict" label. MJ had made his peace with his father. If you doubt this, listen to his Oxford speech.

Why is it that we never hear about the Humanitarian that MJ was? Over 500million to charity. All proceeds from the Victory and Dangerous tour to charity. Who else has performed 100 strenuous concerts and donated it all to charity? Why don't we hear of the many kids whose lives MJs charity saved? Many stories out there, but they don't make headlines. Why nothing of the positive influence he had on race relations? On standing up to racism in the music industry and in society? MJ steped on some toes and exposed things that some would rather he not.

MJ had mentored young boys since he was old enough to do so as his service work in the Jehovah Witness religion. Long before Neverland, and Jordan, and Gavin. The verdict of the trial really didn't matter. They had attacked his heart and soul, everything he worked for, vilified his home, publicly humiliated him. No one could stand up to that level of unwarranted scrutiny and slander. Yet, MJ did, and continues in death to support children with 20% of his estate going to charity.

Oprah could present the truth about MJ if she was motivated. The question remains, why isn't she motivated?

MJ was subjected to an unprecedented investigation and trial and was still acquitted. Both cases were extortion and there's evidence to prove this, if anyone would bother to look. It will not be prominent in the media. Why?

What's "weird" is that the media is saturated with the likes of Diane Dimond, but we hear nothing from Aphrodite Jones, Geraldine Hughes. Bashir's fraudumentary is continually played, but we don't see the rebuttal documentary hosted by Povich; and Nimmer can't interest any cable network in his documentary. Is anyone the least bit curious about why the media is not interested in anything Pro-MJ? Jones, a best-selling author had to self-publish.

Chandler's father administered a drug to his son that made him highly suggestible. People given a suggestion under the influence of this drug believe afterward that suggestion really happened to them. Jordan, nor his mother, made any accusations. It was his father, who was angry because MJ wouldn't finance his screenplay. Jordan didn't draw the diagram of MJs penis, his father did. The official record states that while there are some similarities (aren't all penises similar?), the decription DID NOT match. Yet, why are there so many articles that state as fact that it was a match? Jordan refused to press charges in '93 or testify in the 2005 trial. His mother testified to MJs innocence. Jordan later got a restraining order against his father after he assaulted him with a 12# dumbell. Chandlers were under a gag order, so the uncle who had been astranged from the family wrote a slanderous book. In that book it states that Chandler had walked into Jordan's bedroom and found MJ spooning with his son, and MJs hand was on Jordan's crotch. As it's written, Chandler quietly closed the door and called an attorney. EXCUSE ME. If there was a shread of truth to that, is there any sane parent who would do such a thing? Premeditated extortion.$$$$ The tapes of Chandler discussing the extortion plan are available on YouTube and elsewhere. Read the evidence, before you draw conclusions. MJ, and his children, who have to read this crap, deserve that much.

The jury heard all the facts and found MJ innocent. Why the continued guilty verdict in the Court of Public Opinion?

I could go into detail about the second extortion attempt as well, but suffice it to say, they too were out for money from the beginning. They didn't go to the police, they went to the same attorney and shrink from the '93 case. I will say this, the boy alleged that in all the time he'd spent at Neverland that MJ had been inappropriate 3 times, and all 3 times were alleged to have occured AFTER the Bashir documentary. His allegation came after stating in 3 previous investigations (including one with CPS) that there had been no wrong-doing.
